Do Not Disassemble Policy
This article describes Bobcat’s Do Not Disassemble (DND) policy, explains which parts may be listed as DND, how to identify which parts are DND, and how the policy affects dealer service shops.
The Do Not Disassemble Policy
The Do Not Disassemble (DND) policy is intended to help Bobcat & its suppliers react quickly to understand the root cause of failures on highly engineered parts. Dealers are asked to not disassemble any part affected by the DND policy and expedite a warranty claim and parts return to Bobcat for analysis.
Which Parts May Be Do Not Disassemble?
Parts may be DND due to a new design, an existing design used in a new application, or complex parts from a new supplier. A part will usually be listed as DND for approximately 12 months after the product launch, however, this period may vary with each part.
How To Determine If A Part Is Do Not Disassemble?
The list of DND parts is easily found in IRW. Under the Parts menu, select “Parts Warranty”. In the Policy Comments filter box begin typing “Do Not Disassemble” (specific part numbers or descriptions can also be filtered). DND parts are identified by the policy comment [Figure 1]. Please consider the best method for your dealership staff to remain up to date, so that when a part is removed from DND status they are aware and can return to following normal service procedures.
Two Other Areas May Indicate MA DND Part:
The Online parts catalog may have several indications a part is affected by the DND policy [Figure 2].:
- All or most sub-assemblies show NSS and do not have a part number
- A note next to the main assembly indicates it may be a DND part.
- A note on the illustration indicates it may be a DND part.
If a part is suspected as being DND be sure to verify with the master list in IRW. In certain cases, there may be parts available for minor repairs that do not involve significant disassembly, such as an O-ring or bushing, these will have a part number for order and repair.
Service Manuals may have a note in the procedure section which identifies the part as possibly being affected by the DND policy. The master list in IRW should be checked [Figure 3].
How Will The New Policy Impact A Service Shop?
Dealers are asked to not disassemble any part during warranty repair that is affected by the DND policy. Instead, the entire part should be replaced. In certain cases, a DND part may have some parts available for minor repairs that do not involve significant disassembly, such as a plug, O-ring, or bushing. These exceptions are identified in the Bobcat Online Parts catalog.
As with any repair, detailed troubleshooting must still be performed before replacing a part. The Service Department recommends creating a troubleshooting case in the Salesforce Service Cloud as needed.
Follow the steps below when making a warranty claim and returning a DND part:
- DND parts removed should be drained, capped, and returned in the replacement part’s container.
- Give high priority to filing warranty claims against a DND part to help quickly expedite paperwork for a quick parts return. An IRW Parts Returns course is available in the Doosan Bobcat Learning Centre.
- When submitting for warranty, be sure to provide a detailed explanation that includes a description of the problem, symptoms, and the troubleshooting steps leading to the suspected part.
- If the claim is marked for a photo then only take a photo of the entire part – Do Not Disassemble.
