As in many other industries, the earthmoving machinery sector is constantly seeking the most effective ways to teach safe and precise operations. With technologies like AI, VR, and more now within easy reach, creating sophisticated simulators has become a reality. The goal is to deliver the most realistic and safe training experience for young students and new operators.
Caldarola Srl, one of the first Bobcat dealers in Italy, is embracing this vision with the development of CALID—a cutting-edge simulator that combines technology, experience, and expertise. Designed to train the next generation of operators, CALID offers a modern, engaging approach that is sure to attract young talent to the industry.
CALID is built around a real machine cabin, complete with 1:1 joysticks and other sensors, giving users an authentic machine experience. The simulated environment is displayed on a screen in front of the operator, and the session can be reviewed step-by-step afterward. Multiple simulators can be connected, allowing several machines to operate in the same simulation. Additional features, like facial recognition, are also in development to make CALID an even more effective training tool.
In 2022, Caldarola aligned its operations with the UN 2030 Agenda, particularly focusing on two key objectives that inspired the CALID project:
- By 2030, significantly increase the number of youth and adults with relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship.
- Protect labor rights and promote safe, secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, especially women and those in precarious employment.
By incorporating these simulators, schools, businesses, and training facilities can reduce accident risks during training and lower operational costs (e.g., fuel, machinery, and consumables). Additionally, the project supports sustainability by maintaining a low carbon footprint.
