INTERVIEW: Justin Wright, National Technical Manager, Goscor
Congratulations to Justin Wright, National Technical Manager at Goscor, on his remarkable 20-year journey with Bobcat! In this exclusive interview, we delve into the early days of Justin’s career, his passion for Bobcat, memorable customer experiences, his favorite machines, and advice for anyone aspiring to follow his path.
Can you take us back to the beginning of your career with Bobcat? What inspired you to join the company, and how has the journey been so far?
My career at Bobcat began in April 2003 when I was offered a position as a Parts Counter Sales Representative. Seizing the opportunity, I left my hometown in the small town of Empangeni to relocate to Durban and start at Bobcat, and I have never looked back. My journey at Bobcat has been and continues to be, fun, exciting, and challenging. Each day and every challenge that comes along helps me grow and develop my knowledge and skills, not to mention personal growth.
What is it about Bobcat that resonates with you, and how has the company contributed to your professional growth?
I love the Bobcat brand because of the precision, attention to detail, and professionalism it embodies. The company has significantly contributed to my professional training through continuous support and upskilling opportunities, fostering personal development.
Throughout your years with Bobcat, surely there have been some memorable customer interactions. Could you share a funny or interesting story that stands out?
I’ve had a few interesting trips to Africa, which were truly humbling experiences, especially when having to rough it. Despite the challenges, the hospitality received from the locals was truly heartwarming. However, all interactions with my favorite customers are memorable.
With a variety of machines in Bobcat’s lineup, do you have a personal favorite? If so, what makes it special for you?
I favor the Teleroto range due to the complexities of the machine.
Over the years, Bobcat has introduced new models and technologies. Can you highlight a specific product or technological innovation that you find particularly impressive, and how has it impacted the industry or customer experiences?
The Canbus system is a highlight for me as it simplifies wiring looms and makes it easier to diagnose faults. It enhances the customer’s experience by allowing for easier diagnostics, leading to quicker repair times and more uptime for clients.
In your role, you likely encounter various customer needs. Can you discuss a challenging situation where your technical expertise played a crucial role in resolving an issue for a customer?
There have been various challenges that we have faced both within South Africa and in Africa, where my technical abilities were put to the test. However, I cannot single any of them out as they were all different challenges with various aspects of the machines, and the results have positively impacted my customers.
As someone with two decades of experience, what advice would you give to aspiring professionals looking to build a successful career in the construction and machinery sector?
If you do not learn something new every day, you are not living life to the fullest. If you do not know or understand something, make it your mission to learn about it. That’s my motto.
